THOUGHTS IN A TIME OF PANDEMIC

Ephesians 5:14 (NIV) This is why it is said: Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
Grace and peace to you in great abundance during this time of a global pestilence. As you may know, Jan and I had plans to host and also support several gatherings over the spring and summer however, with the Covid 19 pandemic, community as we knew it has changed radically. With restrictions now in place regarding social distancing, self-isolation and quarantines we all need to adjust our way of communicating. What if this quarantine time was not a time to retire, but on the contrary a time to be active for God more than ever? As one commentator said, "you can close down the church buildings, but you cannot stop the Church from moving forward!"

Matthew 16:15-20 (NIV) “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[ bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

This time is precious. Until we can gather again in person, we are looking into various methods of connecting electronically as well as via this blog.  We are also being very vigilant about self-isolating. In this season of the unknown, it is becoming so much clearer as to why not only us, but so many of you have been 'called' to Boundary Country. Perhaps for such a time as this? We continue to pray for an outpouring, revival and transformation to the villages and communities in Boundary Country!

It has become clear that the enemy is not giving up ground very easily in this region. After wrestling for a few years here, many of us have experienced strong manifestations of spiritual warfare. However, we are not dissuaded, knowing that we have together taken a 'beachhead' and we can say with confidence: "victory, the 'warriors' have landed"!

Boundary Country is full of believers who are 'sleeping giants' and our prayer is that we will each shake off our slumber, drop to our knees in repentance and let go of our prejudices and judgements. We must invite Holy Spirit to convict us of any and all personal sin that that stands in the way of our effective prayer. Is it gossip? Anger? Strife? Bitter Root Judgements? Addictions? Pornography? Maybe it's generational sin, revenge in relationships or even past wickedness on the land of your particular village? We must deal with these hindrances in order to intercede in unity and commanded blessing for the coming move of Holy Spirit in Boundary Country and beyond.

Psalm 133: 1 - 4  (NIV) How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!  It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

Truly, we are living in unprecedented times of crisis in the earth realm due to this virus. In recent years we have lived through Mers, H1N1, Sars, HIV Aids and Ebola, and all set off alarms in the medical arena,  however none has been as uncontrollable as Covid19!  Theories abound that this may be a naturally mutated virus, a man-made virus, or a judgement plague brought on by God. However, whatever the cause, it is time for unceasing prayer and personal and national repentance. Please, do not be distracted by the many conspiracy theories that are being circulated. Instead, seek wisdom, direction, comfort and understanding from Jesus, alone.

2nd Chronicles 7:14 (NIV) If my people that are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

But, even in the midst of this very difficult season, we see the hand of God working in and through His people and 'time is of the essence'.

1. Yes, it is true, the stadiums worldwide are closed and all sporting events, including the Olympics, have been cancelled until further notice. Some are faced with their addictions to the athletic gods of this world which take precedence over our time with Jesus, our family and our friends. What will we do in this time?
  • Worship, pray, reflect, study scripture

2. Yes, it's true, schools and universities have closed, non-essential businesses have closed, theatres, museums, parks, recreation centres, pubs and restaurants have closed worldwide, leaving us in isolation at home with family. What will we do in this time?

  • Love one another, become 'family' again, play games, journal

3. Yes, it is true, churches have been closed worldwide, leaving us without a building to gather in on Sundays. What will we do with this time?
  •  Be creative,  join in on the many online churches and worship along, join in on the online prayer and fasting opportunities, have your own service and communion at home with family.  Let's try to encourage each other over the weeks ahead with an email, a text, or a phone call. If you need prayer, please don't hesitate to reach out to your pastor, your friends or family. We would also be pleased to pray with you and are available by phone on our landline at 250 446 2613.

4. Yes, it is true that Stock markets are crashing worldwide, and greed and corrupt trading is being exposed, along with our own dependency on storing up our treasure where moths and dust destroy. What will we do in this time?
  • Take a fierce inventory of where we spend our money and discover where our heart lies

5. Yes, it is true that Prayer and the need for God and His healing has become front and centre. What will we do in this time?
  •  We have seen videos of Doctors and Nurses praying before surgeries, we have seen videos of Doctors and Nurses worshipping on the roof of their hospital, we have seen Facebook pages come alive with folks saying "Need prayer? Let me know, anytime, day or night". We have seen Healing Rooms go online worldwide! We have seen senators, weeping with repentance on behalf of their nation.
Roman 8:28  (NIV) All things work together for good for who love him and who have been called according to his purpose.

Self-isolation can be a really hard thing to do and and we may try to hide our fears and anxieties by keeping busy. But He has another way. Take advantage of this time to seek his face and gaze into His eyes and maybe for the first time see His deep beauty. He will come to you.

Phil: 4:6-7 (NIV)  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
2nd Tim:1-7  (NIV) For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Blessings and love to you all.
